What advice would you give to the next generation of leaders?
The advice I would give to the next generation of leaders is to do the work. If you feel called to do something and want to make it happen, find ways to connect with people in that field, volunteer, get an internship, join clubs and do what it takes to connect with the people in the industry. Relationships with people are some of the most valuable commodities you can attain. Stay in touch with your contacts, work hard and show that you are a solution oriented person. In my company, we tend to hire the same vendors and staff when they work hard, care about their work and make themselves invaluable.
What woman inspires you and why?
I am so inspired by women that work hard and fight for causes that are changing the world. As the mother of two small children, I am trying to introduce them to smart, strong, resilient woman that I want them to admire and emulate. I am inspired by Ruth Bader Ginsberg, Gloria Steinham, Angela Davis, Roxanne Gay, and Michelle Obama. I think that we all have a responsibility to get involved in our community and fight for what is right. We need to speak out and make our voices heard. We need to mentor and help people less fortunate than us. We need to think about the people that took a chance on us...and do the same for others.
Name a mentor (male or female) that has made a significant impact in your career.
My father has made a significant impact on my career and my life. My father is a true self-made man who has taught me about hard work, perseverance, and the importance of education. My dad never made me feel like I had a different set of rules just because I was a girl. He pushed me to do my best, hold my own and be a fighter. He made me feel like anything was possible.
Describe your ideal vacation.
I love exploring new places with my family. We have been so fortunate to take really amazing vacations with our close friends. I love exposing my kids to different places and cultures. We love the beach, we love to ski, we love museums and history...so we are open to a lot of locations. We try not to go to the same place twice since there are so many places that we want to see and experience. My only request is that we always stay at a nice hotel.
What 3 things do you do in the morning that prepares you for the day?
I don't start a day without a "to do" list. I like to think about my day and prioritize the tasks that need the most attention. I also tend to get pulled in 100 directions so having a road map to organize my day is a huge help for me to stay on track. I take about 20-30 minutes to do cardio in the morning to get my blood pumping and wake myself up physically. Lastly, I get an iced latte from Starbucks EVERY morning for my commute into the office. I like to use my car ride to listen to podcasts, make calls, drink my latte, and take a breath before I get in.
